After a long road to motherhood and a health scare, staying home with my children became the greatest lesson—and greatest gift—of my life.
We would like to thank you for supporting Taylar Hirstius in this year's competition. Your participation made a huge impact for Children’s Miracle Network® and their mission to provide life-saving care and improve the health of children across the country.
When I was a little girl, my mother was my hero. I knew that when the universe would finally place me in a position to be a mom, it would be my biggest honor. Watching my kids grow, learn, and yearn to love is indescribable. Each moment I spend with them, I try to instill the importance of being their best selves, and watching them translate that—even as babies—has been the most rewarding part of being a mother so far.
What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?I think most people may mention patience here, but self-love has been my biggest lesson. Women are so vulnerable on their own, but the minute your baby takes their first breath, an ocean of self-reflection hits you. You created this human who will be solely shaped by you, day by day. It’s important for you to love yourself so they, in return, can do the same. In my purest moments with my children, I see myself and know that, in my biggest insecurities, they are perfect in every way.
What would you do with $20,000?This prize would mean so much to my family. I recently stepped away from work to focus on my health and caring for my infant and toddler. With the $20,000, I would invest in their future. It is a privilege to be part of their journey as they grow into who they are meant to be. I would use this opportunity to expose them to new experiences, cultures, and creativity—something that has always been central to who I am as an artist and a mother.
