Talia Seabold

I have raised my son on my own for the past 9 years with no financial help. With his father in and out of his life, I juggle both roles.

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

The most rewarding part of being a mother is hard to narrow down to just one thing, because it shows up in so many small, meaningful moments over time. For a lot of mothers, it’s the deep emotional connection-the feeling of being someone’s safe place. Knowing your child looks to you for comfort, guidance, and love can be incredibly fulfilling. There’s also the joy of watching them grow and become their own person and being able to help guide them through life.

What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?

That you can never plan or be prepared when life throws you curve balls. My son's father has been in and out of his life since he was 4 years old. I used to have to buy Christmas and birthday presents"from his dad" so that he wouldn't feel sad. Being a mother has taught me how fiercely protective and resilient I am. I would and have done everything in my power to protect my son and his feelings. From dealing with his father, who is addicted to drugs or giving advice about girls, I love it all.

What would you do with $20,000?

I would use most of it to build a safety net as I have struggled financially over the past year. I would also pay down some debts. Even though $20,000 isn't an extreme amount of money, it would be life changing to me to feel like I am able to care for my son with out having to worry about being able to pay rent. I would also buy my son an electric bike so he is able to ride around with his friends.
