I am a special needs mother who advocates for my son nonstop. I don’t have a lot of support, but I continue to show up for my kids everyday.
We would like to thank you for supporting Rachael Duffy in this year's competition. Your participation made a huge impact for Children’s Miracle Network® and their mission to provide life-saving care and improve the health of children across the country.
There are so many rewarding things about being a mom, but being a special needs mom means that my rewards don’t look like other moms. My reward is seeing my 5 year old use his speech tablet rather than screaming what he wants. My reward is seeing my daughter make student of the week twice in a year. I love seeing my kids grow and learn things that may be easier for other children. We celebrate every small thing in our home because small isn’t small to me. Small is actually a huge deal to me.
What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?You can’t put certain expectations on children. I have learned by being a special needs parent that I don’t get to have the same expectations that other parents have. Cherishing the little things in life is one of the biggest lessons I have learned.
What would you do with $20,000?I would pay off a couple bills and invest in both of my children’s futures.
