At 38, I’m raising five kids—19, 17, 11, 9, and 8—while working two jobs. Life is nonstop, built on lists, schedules, and constant planning.
We would like to thank you for supporting Melissa Negley in this year's competition. Your participation made a huge impact for Children’s Miracle Network® and their mission to provide life-saving care and improve the health of children across the country.
I think it's when my kids come to me with their questions—big or small. In those moments, I realize they see me as their “Google,” the one with all the answers. There’s something so special about knowing they trust me, depend on me, and feel safe coming to me for anything. It truly touches my heart and reminds me just how important my role is in their lives.
What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?Children don’t come with a manual. Every child is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all way to handle the situations they face. You learn as you go, taking it one day at a time. It’s not always easy, and no parent is perfect—but we’re all human, doing the best we can with what we have. And sometimes, that’s more than enough.
What would you do with $20,000?I’d turn my backyard into a space my kids can truly enjoy. I’d get them a pool—nothing over the top, just something fun where they can make memories with their friends. I’d also use part of it to fix up our back deck, which is in pretty rough shape right now. Those two things would mean everything to my kids, and seeing them happy would honestly be a dream come true for me.
