I became a mom young, survived a lot, and built a loving life my two kids can feel safe growing up in while bartending and writing books
We would like to thank you for supporting Maria Culp in this year's competition. Your participation made a huge impact for Children’s Miracle Network® and their mission to provide life-saving care and improve the health of children across the country.
The most rewarding part of being a mom is getting to watch my kids grow into their own little people. My son is 6, my daughter is 10, and they are both hilarious, strong-willed, and full of life. After everything we’ve been through, seeing them feel safe, silly, loved, and free to just be kids means everything to me.
What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?Motherhood taught me that strength is not about having an easy life. I became a mom at 17, left an abusive relationship, and built a new life with my husband, who has been my friend since childhood. It taught me to keep going, keep loving hard, and show my kids that where you start does not have to decide where you end up.
What would you do with $20,000?$20,000 would help us give our kids more than just the basics. We could visit out-of-state family, put money toward their futures, and create a more stable home for them. We have always worked hard and stretched every dollar, so this would not just be a gift. It would be breathing room, security, and memories they would carry forever.
