As a psychologist and mother of 2, including a son who has a life-threatening condition, it’s about resilience, love and never giving up!
We would like to thank you for supporting Kristin Purdy in this year's competition. Your participation made a huge impact for Children’s Miracle Network® and their mission to provide life-saving care and improve the health of children across the country.
It’s the depth of connection, love and perspective that being a special needs mom brings. It’s celebrating milestones that others might overlook, finding genuine joy in progress that is hard-earned and deeply meaningful. These moments that build resilience, patience, and appreciation of the unique ways my children experience the world.
What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?It has taught me to be more compassionate towards myself and that it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them. It has also shown me what love and resilience can look like in the face of some monumental challenges, including medical and neurological challenges that my 9-year-old son has been faced with.
What would you do with $20,000?I would put all of it towards a life-saving gene therapy that we’re developing with U Mass for my son and other children with his mutation. He has a rare neurodegenerative mutation on the CLCN6 gene that causes autism, severe epilepsy and the loss of mobility over time and we’re optimistic that the gene therapy can be life saving.
