My kids didn’t grow in my body. They grew in my heart first, then in my home, then finally, permanently, in our family. I fostered nine children before these two came through my door. When they called me Mom, they didn’t have to. The system could have moved them anywhere. But they stayed. And so did I. That’s the reward. Not the easy part. The earned part. Being chosen by the ones you’d choose a thousand times over.
What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?Motherhood taught me that love is not a feeling. It’s a decision you make before the feeling shows up. I showed up for kids who weren’t mine yet. Kids who tested every limit. Kids who left. Kids who stayed. Every single time, I had to choose love before I felt it. That’s the lesson. You don’t wait to feel ready. You don’t wait to feel qualified. You just show up, open the door, and trust that God fills in the rest. He always has.
What would you do with $20,000?Twenty thousand dollars and a mission? That’s easy. I’d invest it directly into the biological families of my boys. Not around them. Into them. Because “forever family” shouldn’t mean we forget where they came from. Legacy isn’t built by cutting ties. It’s built by breaking cycles. Counseling. Resources. Support. My kids deserve to know their roots are healing, not just surviving. That’s a gift no trophy gives. That’s how you change a family tree.
