Connect What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

The most rewarding part of being a mom is the slow win. The daily grind can feel chaotic and like you’re running in place. Then, you hear your eight-year-old son say, “Excuse me, ma’am.” And you think, “Oh my gosh, he IS listening to us!” The slow win is seeing your kids be nice to others on the playground after you’ve watched them argue with each other all week. It’s getting a homemade card from your child and thinking through it all you may just be doing something right.

What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?

It's ok not to have all the answers. As mothers, our kids look to us like we know all the answers. Society looks at us like we ought to have all the answers. We look to ourselves wondering if we're setting our kids up for success or if we'll be on the wrong end of a therapy session someday. We can look to each other for support because if you don't have the answer, another mom friend probably does. We learn how to parent as our kids grow. Knowing the answer isn't as important as the journey.

What would you do with $20,000?

We love to travel and make some of our best memories on family trips. We love showing our kids our favorite places and also discovering new ones together. Although we are a nontraditional family, it's very important to us to create traditions with our children. We would probably split the $20,000 between a vacation and needed updates to our home.
