Connect What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

Getting to see my daughter grow from a tiny preemie to a strong, independent girl who brings so much joy to everyone she meets. She started at just 3 pounds and 9 ounces, and only a year later she has more energy than the energizer bunny. She persevered through two months in the NICU where she caught pneumonia, now she can’t stop singing and talking and showing us just how strong her lungs are. I’m so proud of her and how much she’s blossoming every day.

What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?

That no matter what the circumstances are, I have a voice and I’m allowed to speak up for myself. From the birthing experience where I wish I had spoken up more in defense of my own comfort and anxiety, to being a first time mom where I’m grateful I can advocate for myself and for my daughter’s welfare, I now know that I have the capability to remain in control of the situation. If something doesn’t feel right for me, I can say no. If I need something, I don’t have to be afraid to say so.

What would you do with $20,000?

I would invest in our homesteading property that we’re continuing to grow, hoping to give our daughter the best childhood filled with memories and homegrown foods. I would also set aside part of it for our daughters future, and for future siblings we hope she’ll have. We really hope to grow our family in every way and give them the best life, and this would be so helpful in achieving that goal.
