Gaby Rodriguez

After my stroke I couldn’t walk or talk. Pain lingers, but I rise stronger every day for my son—growing through it all.

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

The most rewarding thing about being a Mom, is that I get the privilege of walking through childhood again with a fresh new set of eyes filled with more love, grace and excitement. The fact that I get to be a witness in the evolution that is his growth, is my greatest blessing of life.

What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?

Motherhood has taught me to keep going. My son was there when I had a stroke, and they met asking me to say my name - and I couldn’t speak. I could feel what I wanted to say, but I couldn’t say it. I couldn’t smile. So, in that moment my son said “mama, you can speak” and it gave me more will, courage and desire to get better for him. Since then we draw happy faces and that’s our symbol to stop and smile. To lead with courage and fearlessness- standing in gratitude. That is what motherhood is.

What would you do with $20,000?

I would take my son on vacation, save for college and invest- I would also like to do some for children and families in need for those who have had medical and financial struggles due to things like strokes, and to help them create more for their family to be stable enough to live and multiply and give back. We all belong to one another. Life is a shared experience.
