The most rewarding part is also the most difficult: watching them grow, thrive, and become independent. It’s a funny thing—that’s the goal, but no one warns you in the What to Expect When You’re Expecting books how hard it is to let go so they can succeed on their own.

Motherhood has taught me the true meaning of resilience. As a working, single mom, I’m often asked, “How do you do it all?” The truth is…you just do out of an indescribable love. I’ve watched them sleep when they were sick and had sleepless nights when they were sad. I’ve driven hours for games and concerts and taken three kids on trips myself. I’d do it all again. I’ve made mistakes, but it’s the memories we made that they’ll remember most.

I would use the prize money to help my parents stay in their home. My father has Parkinson’s, and their two-story house now needs a stair lift and a handicap-accessible bathroom. He worked 2–3 jobs when I was growing up so we never went without—even spending an entire paycheck to take us to a Michael Jackson concert. I’d love the chance to give back to him now.
