Mama x3, CEO, Founder x2, I've navigated my kids through more than one school shooting and proudly raised humans who lead with empathy.
We would like to thank you for supporting Colleen Johnson in this year's competition. Your participation made a huge impact for Children’s Miracle Network® and their mission to provide life-saving care and improve the health of children across the country.
Watching my three kids (ages 8, 16, and 18) grow into deeply empathetic people who notice the struggles others try to hide. In a world that moves fast and looks away when things are hard, they choose to slow down and *see* people. That didn't happen by accident. We've had hard conversations, lived through hard moments, and chosen connection every time. Knowing they'll carry that into the world...nothing I've built as a CEO comes close.
What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?Resilience isn't about bouncing back, it's about staying present when everything in you wants to fall apart. My kids have survived school shootings. We've sat together in the aftermath and talked honestly about fear, grief, and the mental health crisis facing young people in this country. Motherhood taught me that the bravest thing I can do isn't building a bubble around them, it's being a safe place for my kids to be human.
What would you do with $20,000?Take my three kids to Japan! We've earned it. Between founding companies and navigating some of the hardest moments a family can face, we haven't stopped to just be together without an agenda. Japan has been on our bucket list for the culture, the food, and the beauty of the nature there. $20,000 means all five of us could go, and take our time. That trip would be our celebration of everything we've done and everything still ahead, especially before my oldest heads off to college.
