The best part of being a mom is watching my children grow up, being able to play a direct part in their development, and creating memories with them. The first thing that crossed my mind when I recieved my cancer diagnosis was, "Will I be able to be there for my kids and will I get to watch them grow up?" As mothers, we don't want our babies to grow up but being able to watch them do so brings us indescribable pride and joy. I enjoy helping, encouraging, and cheering them on along the way!

I had always viewed motherhood as self-sacrificing. The biggest lesson motherhood has taught me is that putting your family first does not mean neglecting yourself. In order to be the best mother you can be, you NEED to prioritize self-care. Caring for yourself will in effect play a direct role in helping you fulfill your role as a mother. Self-care can result in better mental and physical health, it can even save your life!

Although insurance helps, there are many out of pocket costs. I worked throughout chemo only taking a 6 week medical leave after my double mastectomy due to limited disability coverage. My reconstructive surgeries will follow once my treatments are complete. I will use this money to pay for my medical expenses in an effort to alleviate the financial burden on my family. I would also like to donate to Canopy Cancer Survivorship as they helped my family and I during our darkest times.
