Connect What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

I am continually rewarded as I watch my deaf daughter embrace her cochlear implants, eagerly exploring and listening to the world around her. She doesn’t realize she’s any different from other children without an invisible disability, and it never stops her from being the loving, sweet, and fearless girl she is. My son is always cheerful and smiling, which is yet another wonderful reward of being a mom to these Irish twins!

What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?

Motherhood is humbling and has taught me profound patience. Before having children, I practiced patience as needed, especially in my role as a behavior therapist for children with autism. As a parent, I am constantly challenged by my daughter, who has a language delay and is working hard to communicate her needs, while also giving my full attention to my youngest son, who depends on me for everything. Raising two children is demanding, yet beautiful all at once.

What would you do with $20,000?

I would pay off outstanding student loans so I can finally complete my master’s degree and become a board-certified behavior analyst. I would also set aside some funds to help my husband pay off debt as well as take my children to Disney World when they are old enough to truly enjoy the experience as a family.
