Amanda Cole

I’m single mom to two adopted special needs teens I’ve had since they were infants. My kids and I face everything as a team.

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

My children came to me with several health issues that most pediatricians felt they would not survive or thrive past 6 months old. My children are now 14 and 15, and living their best farm kid lives. I feel blessed to see them grow and learn in ways that might not have been possible.

What is the biggest lesson motherhood has taught you?

Life with special needs children has taught me to take each day as it comes. We will have good days and ones that are tough, we will have successes and struggles, but we just do the next thing needed to get through the day.

What would you do with $20,000?

As a single, self employed mom, I give up a large portion of my week to take my children to appointments, thus limiting my income. I would love to be able to make some improvements within our home to help make it more energy efficient, as well as help repair some areas where the kids special needs have impacted the home. And if I could save a little for a small weekend away in St. Louis, I think their kid-friendly activities would be an amazing experience for my family to share.
