I am a mother of 2 wild pirates, they are my world. My oldest, is special needs she was two months early which caused her many delays.
We would like to thank you for supporting Sonya Rodrigues-Romero in this year's Super Mom competition. Your participation allows us to aid Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in their commitment to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
The most rewarding part of being a mom is seeing my wild pirates excel and grow each day. I have watched my oldest who was once nonverbal until the age of four to at the age of twelve communicates decently with the help of a speech therapist. She has other struggles in life however, I recognize how far she has come and celebrate her each day. My youngest pirate always keeps me on my toes with her cheeky behavior, I never know what she will do next.
What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?Sadly, I will never forget the day that I almost lost my oldest to the negligence of an anesthesiologist, who overdosed her with fentanyl. I literally watched the life drain from her body, she changed colors, then flatlined. I was in shock and disbelief. If it was not for the Alameda County Fire Department, I know that she would not be here today. The doctor was suspended for 3 yrs, and I did not even get an, I'm sorry. To this day, whenever I see a Falck ambulance or a fire engine I tear up.
What would you do with $20,000?I would love to say I would put it towards their education or towards purchasing a home since I am still a renter. But honestly, I reside in the Bay Area, and it is quite expensive. With the winnings I would pay off bills/debt, mostly accrued from all the different therapies I have my oldest. What is remaining, I would take my wild pirates on a much-needed vacation. Preferably to Hawaii since both my pirates have been wanting to visit for years since they saw Lilo and Stitch.
