Shelby Downs

I do my best to be a super mom. I joined the military when my girls were very young to give them an example of how women can do anything.

We would like to thank you for supporting Shelby Downs in this year's Super Mom competition. Your participation allows us to aid Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in their commitment to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

Watching my children form their own identity. They are forming their own opinions and characters. It’s beautiful! My favorite thing is when they question something I ask of them, not because they are defiant but because they truly want to learn what the outcome will be if they go against it. Them being themselves will always be my biggest reward.

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

It was a holiday so I was off work and my girls were out of school. My 8 year old daughter came up to me and asked me if I would home school her for the day. My 5 year old said she wanted to do it too. We sat down and made a schedule and for the rest of the day they wanted to learn and they did. They know 4 presidents, about the Mona Lisa, Van Gogh, and more. It was the most rewarding experience and I am forever thankful to be their momma.

What would you do with $20,000?

$20,000 would allow me to pay off the rest of my debt so I can be a stay at home mom. I have been working very hard to be able to homeschool my babies so I can keep them happy and safe.
