Shannon McCarthy

I’d consider myself a super mom because of how much I worry about being a super mom; about being the best I can be for my kids!

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

Watching them learn, watching a friendship blossom between brothers, watching them help one another and see their individual personalities emerge. Raising kind, curious and respectful kids in this world can feel pretty tough when we're also working and being pulled in a thousand other directions so to see your kids respond well to your efforts is just the very best. To hear them use your words back to you when teaching a lesson about kindness or boundaries - it's beautiful!

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

We have made a point to travel with our kids and I think those are easy memories to hold on to, but I think the memories I'll never forget are the more mundane things - looking out our back window to a sunset on a summer night, seeing them run around the yard and catch fireflies or working with them in the kitchen. They love to help with a project and I'll never forget their sweet faces, in matching chefs hat and aprons, helping me make dinner or brownies for the first time.

What would you do with $20,000?

Gosh, I realistically think I'd use some of it for practical things - like bills and savings - because that's just sometimes what moms do. I've also always dreamt of having enough wealth one day that I could donate to a project or non-profit in a meaningful way and having an "extra" $20,000 would be an opportunity to do that as well. I am part of a group working to build a Children's Museum in our community and I would love to be able to use some of this money toward that cause!
