I am a mom of 3. I just underwent chemo/radiation and a bone marrow transplant. I teach my kids how to fight for what’s important.
We would like to thank you for supporting Shaina Gonzalez in this year's Super Mom competition. Your participation allows us to aid Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in their commitment to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
When my children look up to me and express that they want to be like me. It’s incredibly humbling to know that the way I live, love, and navigate the challenges of life serves as an example for them. It makes all the hard work worth it to see them admire my strength, kindness, and the values I try to instill in them. Knowing that I’m shaping their lives in such a meaningful way is the greatest reward of all.
What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget? How unwittingly supportive my kids were when I lost my hair from chemo. It was such a surreal experience. I felt like I was losing a part of myself. What’s worse is that my kids are at an age where they’re more aware of other people’s opinions. The “mom you look so beautiful”, from my daughter, and “bruh, I love your bald head!” from my son sent me to tears. They didn’t see it as something to be ashamed of—they see me as strong & beautiful. I find strength in them during a vulnerable time.
What would you do with $20,000?I’d take my kids to Disney World since it’s been their dream and after everything we’ve been through (including being separated for 3 months for treatment), they deserve it. I’d also treat myself to a spa day, as most of our money goes toward medical bills. And lastly,I want to start a nonprofit for the rare disease I have, raising awareness and helping others who face the same challenges. It’s important to me to create something positive out of my experience and give back.
