Shacana Watkins

I’m a woman who juggles full-time work, being a good wife and an even better mom. I play different roles and wear many hats!

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

The most rewarding part of being a parent is often seeing my son grow into his own person — watching him learn through trial and error, overcoming challenges, and developing his unique personality. I love his laughter, our hugs, his firsts of everything, and the feeling that I play a part in shaping his character/life. I just love every part of being a mom, even the not so good stuff.

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

The first day he entered school. I was so nervous. My husband and I took off work to be near his school in case he needed us. I cried the entire half day that he was there. When it was time to pick him up, he came out of the school like the mature big boy he was, very relaxed while I was on pins & needles! I realized that he was doing the very thing we taught, for him to be independent. Of course I cried that evening again because I realized that this separation only increases as he grows. Lol.

What would you do with $20,000?

I work many hours, but I also balance my work with life/family. When I think of extra cash, I think about my family. I would pay for an all expense paid trip for the four of us. I have a bonus daughter but she’s in the Navy. We talk to her a lot but don’t get the chance to spend time face-to-face a lot. This would be nice.
