My son's dad and I separated before he was two. I have worked my tail off to build a strong financial foundation for both of us, entirely on my own. I've put my own hurt aside to create a caring, inclusive relationship with his dad so that my son gets the joy of both parents - not the scorn of divorce. I'm re-building our family and engaged to a man who has an amazing relationship with my son and who respects my son's dad as my co-parent. Seeing us thrive as a family is so rewarding.

My dad had me late in life - twin girls at the age of 54! I lost my mom at a young age, so he was really mom and dad. He taught me so much about persevering and staying positive no matter what challenges lie ahead. I never thought he would know my children. He turns 94 years old today (April 8th) and is a very active part of our family. Seeing the way that my son lights up around his papa (and vice versa) will be something that I never forget.

I am taking a leave of absence from work to care for my dad. Unfortunately, the state of California pays next to nothing to cover lost wages for a caregiver. This would be a huge relief for my family and enable me to fully focus on dad.
