Connect What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

The most rewarding part of being a mom is being able to give my life away for someone that can’t do anything in return for me right now. Dealing with a chronic disease that affects every part of my life, it’s so easy to focus on myself which only makes me miserable. Loving and serving my daughter and husband in the midst of pain has brought me more joy than I knew possible & it has shown me a glimpse of how Jesus endured suffering for the sake of those He loves. I want to be like Him.

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

I will never forget when my daughter called me “mama” for the first time. She had learned how to arch her back in protest to the car seat on the same day which, as a first time mom, made me remember she’s a person with a will and an opinion. I calmly followed through to put her in the car seat and we went to Trader Joe’s. I was a little flustered as we walked around after the car seat moment but then, she looked up at me with a big smile and said “mama” and I melted. All else was forgotten.

What would you do with $20,000?

My husband and I are full-time Christian missionaries and we live off of the support of donors so it is difficult to put anything away beyond our bills as we steward what people have sown into us. I’m in need of a medical treatment that will be out-of-pocket so a small portion would be able to cover that so I can get back on my feet. Beyond that, we’d love to be able to put some away for our daughter’s future and invest in starting a small business so that we can become a resource to others.
