Giselle Rozon

Being a mom has changed the trajectory of my life. It’s the best part of me. I worked hard to be a role model for my daughter.

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

The most rewarding part of being a mom is getting to be her mom. It’s always been just the two of us, and she’s grown into my best friend. She makes me laugh every day. I put myself through school, became a school counselor, and raised an extraordinary young woman who is kind, smart, and ready for college. I’m proud of her, proud of us. I did my best—and seeing who she’s become lets me know I did a good job. That’s the most rewarding feeling in the world.

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

One memory I’ll never forget is her Sweet 16. I was so anxious leading up to it—I was in school pursuing an additional certification as a mental health counselor, working full-time as a school counselor, and taking all the overtime I could get. I didn’t know how I’d pull it off or find the money, but somehow I did. The day was magical and perfect. Sharing every moment with her made it all worth it. I’ll hold that day in my heart forever. Every sacrifice was worth it.

What would you do with $20,000?

With $20,000, I’d get her a car since she’s going off to college soon. I honestly don’t know how I’m going to afford it all. I’d pay off some debt and maybe use the rest as a down payment on an apartment—something we could own, something stable, something I could leave to her one day.
