Connect What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

My kids and I have learned to dance in the rain, to find happiness and laugh together even when things might be tough. In life we are not promised ease. We know this all too well, maybe even more than most. With my husband being incarcerated facing life in prison, I am so grateful to be alive. It is most rewarding to help my kids walk through the ups and downs of life and point them to where our true hope lies, in Christ!

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

The first time my kids saw snow is a moment I will never forget. We were on a road trip to a funeral for a family member whose life was tragically taken. Being almost 7 months pregnant, I prioritized being there, loaded up my van with my 5 kids at the time, and hit the road from Georgia to New York. I split the trip up into 3 days. We got to see beautiful sights, from the Smokey mountains, the plains in PA, sight seeing in DC, to playing my favorite 90s hits singing at the top of my lungs.

What would you do with $20,000?

I would love to start a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness and providing support to families affected by incarceration. Specifically those left on the outside who are left picking up the pieces of the damage that is left behind. There can be so much shame involved in having a parent/close family member being incarcerated. There are resources for families who are considered a victim of a crime, but for the ones who are related to the side of the perpetrator, resources simply are not there.
