took the MCAT 8 months pregnant, now a mom to a 4 month old working to be a doctor and save other people’s families while caring for my own.
We would like to thank you for supporting Devan Johnson in this year's Super Mom competition. Your participation allows us to aid Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in their commitment to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
The most rewarding part about being a mom is knowing every little moment whether it is a diaper change or singing a silly song is going towards creating a person that will make a positive impact on this world and the people in it. It is knowing no matter how hard or tiring it is, it is always worth it. It is knowing there is a line of women before you and an army of women with you going through it around the world, the instincts and love a mom has transcends all language and cultural barriers.
What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget? My baby is 5 months old, but to this day my favorite memory was the moment we met. I struggled with prenatal depression severely and I was so scared of how I would be able to bond with him when he came. The second he entered this world was the best moment of my life and the 48 hours in the hospital that followed I realized that my love for him was so strong I could and would overcome anything for him. I stared at this precious being and cried over and over at how in love I was.
What would you do with $20,000?This $20,000 dollars would be life changing for our family. We would use this to help with medical school costs as well as money towards our baby’s college fund. Going through medical school as a mom presents unique challenges and a particularly strong financial strain, one that often holds moms back from pursuing their dreams for the sake of their family. I want to be a role model for moms, black and Latina women, and anyone else that is scared of barriers to entry in medicine.
