The most rewarding part of being a mom is seeing my son do all the things doctors said he’d probably never do. When my son was diagnosed with autism 8 years ago, I remember feeling defeated. We had a list of all the things he wouldn’t do. Seeing the world through his eyes is amazing. Seeing him love life, smile everyday with his condition and health issue, seeing him achieve goals and conquer all the things they said he wouldn’t and learning from him is the most rewarding part of being a mom.
What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?I will never forget the first time I heard him speak after being nonverbal. For most moms this is also a memory but for me hearing his voice after not thinking he’d ever talk was a day I would never forget.
What would you do with $20,000?I would pay off some of my son’s medical bills, self publish my Autism book, and jump start my Autism mom support and resource group.
