Alyse McKenzie

Just 6 years ago when I had my son. I found out that he’s nonverbal and autistic. It’s been a little bite of a struggle raising him.

We would like to thank you for supporting Alyse McKenzie in this year's Super Mom competition. Your participation allows us to aid Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in their commitment to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

As a single mother the most rewarding thing was seeing my nonverbal son write his own name without my help. Just seeing him grow and being the best that he can be. Not caring about what others think.

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

The first time and last time he called me mom. It only happened once but I will never forget the way it made me feel. People take their kids talking for granted. I cannot so that was a very special moment for me.

What would you do with $20,000?

Get him into a better school. Get us a bigger apartment. That’s all very simple.
