Melissa Philippe

What makes me a Super Mom is that I’m a mom to all, even before I had my daughter. My love for people is what makes me a super mom.

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

For me, the most rewarding part of being a mom is the matriarchal communal power I have. I am the community, the traditions, stories and memories that get passed down. The rhythm of the family is webbed through my ability to see each person for who they are and not who I or the world wants them to be. Knowing that is more than rewarding, I am a safe space for everyone. It is my life's passion. To be known in the family as that leader or elder is an honour. To carry the torch on.

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

One memory of our daughter that I will never forget is when I was pregnant and felt her flutter for the first time. My husband swore it was gas (because he couldn't feel them yet - jealous), and it made those 20 weeks of HG seem like a blur. Her vitality and graceful moments held my heart as the simple movement took me back. I was joyful that this was my time to begin my journey into motherhood.

What would you do with $20,000?

I am the proud founder and owner of Blissful Births, an afro-indigenous birth keeper, spiritual and wellness practitioner, life and family counsellor and breastfeeding and lactation educator. The funds would go to scaling my business so I can provide free services to communities in need throughout the south of Ny, NY and California. To create events and workshops where families can connect with others, be educated and learn more about the strife of parenthood.
