Symone Nicks

I’m a special education teacher whose job can be quite stressful. I still put on my cape to show up for my own son who is special needs.

What is the most rewarding part of being a mom?

I get to try again each and every everyday, while learning together. I get to raise someone who loves me even when I’m lost, tired , sick, or even angry. Hearing my 5yo say “ I love you Mom” makes it so motivating to be the best mom! There’s no book when decide to be a mom, so you get to do it your way.

What is one memory of your kids that you will never forget?

His first day of going to daycare at age three. I thought he needed some friends and a break apart would be nice. I called a million times, and wondered all day what he was doing.Due to limited speech, I worried a lot. I would say he’s probably crying, only to open the parent chat and he was having a ball.

What would you do with $20,000?

I would use that as a down payment for a home, so we can create our own traditions in our home. I never grew up in a whole house. I would love to see him and his friends playing in the yard, and having celebrations with our loved ones. I would take my son on his first flight and go wherever he wants just us two!
